Free Thornton W. Burgess Books ~ Kindle eBooks For Children

I love every wonderful animal book by Thornton Burgess.  My grandmother read them to her children.  My mother shared the few amazing old editions she had with us.  When my children came along, I found some cheap paperback re-releases and read those to them, but far, far fewer than I would have liked.  It's been over 20 years since I first wandered the world of the Green Forest, danced with the Merry Little Breezes, or followed the Laughing Brook.  Somehow, it still seems like home.

If you've never read a Burgess book, prepare to step into the wild, to see it through the eyes of the animals that inhabit it.  The animals can have very human characteristics, whether they're grumpy, prone to mischief, or tend to gossip.  Life isn't always easy or sweet - sometimes it's a life and death struggle as they flee some predator - but in general it's a beautiful place to be.

These are classic tales, with old fashioned values, originally published from 1910-1960.  The author was involved in many conservation projects over his lifetime, but perhaps his most enduring effort in that vein was through his stories.  In each book, we get to know the wild and her creatures as well as we know our family and neighbors.

So, I'm delighted to be able to share with you today a wealth of free Thornton W. Burgess books in digital format.  If you don't own a Kindle, simply download or install the Kindle reader for other platforms, and you can read them on your computer, or wherever.
